Kitten and her three teenagers decided in October of 2020 to start the process of getting rage rooms opened in Spokane Washington. After several months of trying to get an SBA startup fund and getting way too much push back about how a "novelty store" won't bring in enough to break even; Kitten was encouraged by her teenagers to go forward without a start-up loan. Saving everything they could and were able to come up with enough to get a month's worth of inventory, and secure a location.
While Kitten was building this website her teens were doing commercial property searches; looking for the right location was turning into a task. It took over four months to find a location that was near downtown and was somewhat ready for move-in. After finding 122 S. Division the family scrambled to get it ready. Kitten put in over 160 hours in two and a half weeks. Pulling carpet, grinding thin-set, pulling tiles, building shelves, reusing items that were left in the shop to make Heartbreak Lane.
After two long weeks, they were a day away from opening when a shop vac was plugged into an outlet which was the start of some interesting events. The outlet blew to the point of smelling and the back and front room lights and outlets stopped working. As Kitten spent everything they had saved to get to this point; She couldn't hire an electrician. After watching several Youtube videos, the outlet was changed and so was the circuit breaker. With all the hope in the world, they tried the lights, and neither room lit up, the outlets, however, started receiving some currency. Enough to flicker a lamp on and off but not enough to keep a lamp on.
Kitten needed funds to hire a professional and had to open for business in order to obtain some revenue. On June 1st, the doors opened and Kitten without any money for advertising needed to get the word out that rage rooms are here. The family came up with the idea to invite KXLY out for a raging good time; that helped. Within a few days, appointments started getting booked. After being open for four days the family was getting excited thinking that they would be able to get the electricity fixed so they can start saving for advertising. The day after deciding to call an electrician Kitten and her teens showed up to a flooded store; which changed the plan into calling a plumber. Every cent earned since opening went right to Gold Seal Plumbing, which didn't hesitate to come out and quickly save us from more damage.
That set all plans back; starting from nothing again. The family began to save again the amount being saved wasn't going to end up in an electrician's hands like planned. As Kitten was out getting inventory one week after the plumbing issue the radiator in her car blew and several fan blades broke damaging more things under the hood within seconds all the radiator fluid was dumped from her car. A week having to use a rental and the fee to fix the car did more than set them back but they still smiled through it.
The family is saving again and is still open to the public with hopes that the punches will stop coming.
Extension cords and lamps brighten our front room and the back has amazing sensor lights plugged into extension cords to keep rage room two lit.
